Welcome to Off Grid Mumma!
I’m Caity – a mum, wife, and homesteader living in beautiful rural Queensland. My family and I have embraced the off-grid lifestyle, and I’m here to share our journey with you.
For a long time, I was working hard, running businesses and while I was making great money, I didn't feel fulfilled the way I had hoped. I never thought that becoming a full time homemaker would be the answer.
The transition has been gradual and I've flip flopped between working and being home since our first was born in 2017. I would work my butt off and pour everything I had into that until I burned out and would have to take time off.
The last burn out in 2022 was really hard and my mental health took a battering. Hubby and I decided that the best place for me was at home. For my benefit and the benefit of our family.
We settled into me being home with our daughter and it was great, but it still didn't feel entirely right. There was something missing and I couldn't work out what it was.
I did extensive work on myself to try and fill this piece that was missing.
And then I realised the piece was that although my husband and I had crafted a life that brought us joy and peace and fulfilment, our son hadn't been given the same opportunity.
We removed him from his public school in March 2024 and haven't looked back.
Our family has never been more happy, content, connected ever.
I don't see an end to our homeschool journey. I'm sure one day the kids will grow and move out, hopefully they will build a house on the property here, but I don't see an end to us learning together as a family and that really excites me.
Hubby
I met this very tall, very loud, very tattooed dude at a night club just two weeks after I had turned 18 all the way back in 2009. I truly mean it when I say it was love at first sight. I was completely obsessed with him from the day we met.
This city loving party boy has turned into a horticulture, permaculture loving man who works tirelessly day in and day out to provide a modest, but comfortable life for his wife and children.
His favourite things to do include digging holes (no I'm not joking) watering his plants, listening to podcasts, eating snacks and thinking about what's for dinner.
Mr C
Our baby boy who's not such a baby anymore. He joined our lives in January of 2017 during the most insane heatwave and he's been riding the crazy times ever since.
He's our "schooled" child and while we have no regrets about the decisions we made up until deciding to remove him from the school system, we can see a massive shift in his since bringing him home.
This little man loves building Lego and comes up with the most incredibly creative inventions. He's mad about Minecraft and loves to tinker with designing things in Canva.
For the most part, he's happiest being outside where his bare feet connect with the earth. We usually find him sitting up a tree, riding his bike through mud puddles or having a quiet moment with his animals.
Miss M
Sweet as sugar and tough as nails is our little Miss M who entered our world in October of 2021 in the middle of one of the biggest storms we've had hit us out here.
This little lady went to day care for a few months, however, my heart was starting to shift from wanting to be a rich boss babe to wanting to be home with my babies all day every day.
She is our typical girl loving all things pink and sparkly despite our best efforts to avoid it lol. She loves to role play with her dolls occasionally but like her big brother (who she calls Bubba) she loves being outside on a swing, trampoline or just running wild.
She'll be the wild one when they're older I'm sure but I have faith that her Bubba won't be far away from her.
